Michael Cammalleri chose $$$ and the enemy over his hometown Maple Leafs
Back in July 2009, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Brian Burke showed some interest in the free agent from Richmond Hill, Michael Cammalleri.
Cammalleri didn’t leave much time to the Leafs as the Montreal Canadiens, enemy of the Toronto Maple Leafs, offered him a 30 millions$/5 years contract. Cammalleri told lfpress.com that he doesn’t regret his decision to pass on the Leafs as he had great moments in Montreal.
As Leafs fans, we can all be thankful Cammalleri picked the Habs as he has been injured often and his stats in the last 3 seasons are less than stellar. So far this season, he only scored 12 times and in his two previous seasons, he registered 26 and 19 goals, and never surpassed 50 points.
At 6 millions per season, I believe the Maple Leafs would have passed on the Flames’ forward, if they would have known those stats. Not only is he not productive, but he also doesn’t do much with and without the puck. He constantly takes bad decisions on the ice, and is a combined -3 in the plus-minus rating since signing his big contract.
Thanks you very much Michael Cammalleri for passing on the Maple Leafs in 2009!!

I guess the leafs had already signed Komisarek, so one mistake kept them from making a second one!!! the biggest difference, Komisarek seems to be missing a lot of games but not because he’s injured and Montreal was able to trade Cammaleri, Leafs will be stuck with Komisarek for another 2 season.
Yes, unfortunately Komisarek has shown some very big weaknesses in his game over the past few years. No teams would be interested in a nig defensive defenceman, who can’t even play defence anymore. Stuck with him for 2 more years is right!
Yes. Unfortunately Komisarek has shown over the past few years that he cannot play a solid defensive game, and can certainly not play offensively either. It is a waste however, for such a big defenceman
