Okay, so apparently Ben Scrivens is going to get the nod ahead of James Reimer for tonight’s season-opener in Montreal against the Canadiens. I won’t lie, I would have preferred to see Reimer in goal, but to be fair, Scrivens had the better training camp.
(Interestingly this was also the case last season when Scrivens outplayed Reimer and Jonas Gustavsson during pre-season. Ultimately though, he was sent down due to being the only one who couldn’t be picked up off the waiver wire.)
Is it possible Leafs coach Randy Carlyle picked Scrivens due to being freaked out by Reimer’s uncanny resemblance to ‘the Sherminator’ from the American Pie movies:
True or not, it doesn’t help that Reimer has apparently been strutting around, referring to himself as ‘the Reimernator’ and saying he was sent back in time to satisfy the needs of a fan base by helping them return to the playoffs.
