It’s always good when Toronto-based athletes make the effort to support the other teams in this city.  Here’s the Leafs Phil Kessel, who was at the ACC last night to catch the Raptors game against the Grizzlies:

Kessel is known for usually keeping himself to himself,  so you have to appreciate his taking the time to pose for pictures.  (Just because being photographed with fans is viewed as part of the unofficial job description, it still doesn’t make it any easier if you’re naturally a shy person by nature.)

Actually. it’s been refreshing to see Kessel also making more of an effort on the social media front of late.  After previously sending exactly two tweets during 2012 (including one to wish everyone a happy new year) Kessel has become a tweeting maniac in the last few days.

This increased presence on Twitter actually bodes well for the Leafs, as a lot of Kessel’s tweets have revolved around banter with his teammates, in essence alluding to the camaraderie within the squad:

I’m on board with anything that brings Kessel out of his shell, especially as it all seems to have coincided with his scoring more goals of late. (Admittedly not exactly too difficult after having none through the first 10 games of the season.)

Armed with this new-found bravado, Kessel even found time to make an impromptu appearance on ‘Who Want To Be A Millionaire?’

Actually, maybe there’s such a thing as too many public appearances.  I guess it’s true; the camera really does add ten pounds.  I wonder how many he has on him……..
